Packing up
This being the week before we leave, it has obviously been busy.
On Sunday we checked into lodging and began the transition out of our house. This worked well, because it allowed us to clean up without contributing to the mess though out daily living -- washing sheets, packing boxes the way we wanted, and sorting through the kids' rooms.
The big days were Thursday and Friday. On Thursday I took a trip to the dump (as many, many other people do this time of year in Hawaii), and got rid of some old fixtures. We also had our property manager do a walkthrough with some prospective tenants, who then committed to move in just a few days after we leave.
This is huge for us. We knew we wouldn't likely get enough rent to cover our mortgage, but we were hoping for something comparable to other places in our neighborhood, and as soon as possible. So this worked out *really* well.
On Friday, the movers came and packed up everything we had left. It took from about 9:30 to 1:00, and filled 111 boxes of various sizes. We also got all the school records we'll need for the kids, and the payment check for the Veloster we sold. All things considered, very successful.
Tomorrow, we turn the keys over to the property manager and clean out the Elantra.
