In Shanghai I've seen a number of jobs that simply don't exist in the U.S. There's a guy that organizes the bicycles so that the public can make the most of the space available. There are also street cleaning bicycles that hook up to fire hydrants and use the water to clean the gutters.
China is no longer a nation completely dominated by bicycle riders, but the bicycle is still an important part of daily life even in the most wealthy cities.
