NT in 40 days: Mark 11-14

In Mark 12:28-34, we see a teacher of the religious law asking Jesus a question about which of the Old Testament commandments was the most important. When Jesus gives his answer, he actually listens and internalizes it, replacing each "your" from Deuteronomy 6:4-5 with "my."

Jesus finishes by saying "You are not far from the Kingdom of God."

I've always thought that was a very inspirational line -- to be told you were not far from the Kingdom of God -- but I'm sure a lot of it had to do with his character. Compare his attitude with the rich man from Mark 10 who went away sad despite lacking "only" one thing.

One asked because he wanted to justify himself. The other asked because he wanted to know.
