CLC3 Day 36: Phase 1 results

This morning I woke up at 4:30 and joined the GAFPB group for PT. It was pretty frustrating because I cognitively know how the high jump is supposed to work, but I don't know how to get my body to do that.

Part of my frustration came from being told that we'd have a coach available (the one who didn't show up yesterday). I had hoped that he'd be able to give me some pointers on how I can work on this. However, all he did was set up, show us how to do it once, and then take off. I'm guessing he didn't want to stay out in the cold (it was 27 this morning), but it left a bunch of us floundering.

Although there's an alternative -- the long jump -- I think it will be much easier for me to handle the four-foot high jump bar than do a 14-foot long jump. Given that I have to work on both this AND the shotput, I feel very nervous about my ability to pass the test in the time frame we have.

In class this morning we took our assessment on the Sustainment Overview block. I don't feel too confident about how I did. Even though I understand a lot of things in principle, it seems silly to spend so much time on things like "the eight principles of logistics" when I just want to know how to do a good job at my next unit.

In the afternoon we started the Transportation block. I was happy because this was one area in which I could contribute, but I'm still unclear on what this phase is supposed to be about. Although they redid the curriculum, there hasn't been any communication on what the overall goals are.

I also sat down with the Phase I instructor to go over my grade, which I found encouraging. Here's how it broke down:
  • 46.5/50 in Leadership Essentials.
  • 148/150 in Mission Command. My presentation and paper on the Battle of Jipyeongni might be the best score in our entire group.
  • 46/50 for the Country Brief. The four missed points come from our group presentation. I should have done a better job by taking more of a leadership within our group and coordinating a rehearsal time.
  • 76/80 for Joint & Unified Land Operations
  • 17/20 for Unit Training.
  • 134/150 for the Operations Block. I didn't offer much here because I really didn't understand the MDMP, and my pariticipation score showed.
  • 97/100 for Leadership. The average score was 92, which I matched. I got 5 points for taking part in Combatives.
  • 267/300 on the final. I did well in the multiple choice and short answer questions. On the first essay I lost ten points because I didn't sufficiently explain how I would include offense and stability elements in the defense of a city. In the second question, I missed an entire section about the Leadership Requirements Model. That cost me twenty points.
Even so, I don't feel so bad. Overall, I have a 92% going into the second phase.
