Trip to Busan

Last weekend we went down to Busan to visit some friends. The church that SY had helped plant in 1995 was having a sort of reunion, and invited the whole family.
So, after work on Friday we caught the high-speed KTX train from Cheonan. For $125, what would normally be a six-hour drive was shortened to a little over two and a half.
We spent the first night at a friends' place in this high rise. This place was huge.
The architecture and landscaping combined to made a really fun place to walk around, and the amenities included visiting guest quarters (at a better rate than you'd be able to find elsewhere).
For lunch, we went to a places called VIPs (amusingly pronounced "bips" in Korean) where I had a steak. Nothing particularly novel there, but it came out extremely rare on a heated stone, and you watched it sizzle right in front of you (kind of like 돌솥비빔밥). That was fun, in part because it reminded me of the 회식 the teaching staff at CDI did.
After that, we went for a walk near the Hae-Un-Dae (해운대) beach.
In the evening, C and I went on a walk in a multi-story shopping center nearby, and found this rooftop garden.
On Sunday, we went to church in the morning, and then left in the afternoon. As we went back to the station, I noticed Busan has a Chinatown, though it's explicitly marketed as a shopping place for foreigners. We didn't have time to stop there, but this blog has a fantastic, funny write-up about it.
Here's what the inside of a KTX car looks like -- more spacious than an airplane...
... and more scenery, too.
Good trip.
