Problems with driving on Camp Humphreys

It's really strange. SY has both a Korean driver's license and a Texas driver's license, yet cannot drive on U.S. installations in Korea. She needs to get the orange SOFA driver's license for that.

We tried doing that today. According to the Driver Training, Testing, and Licensing website, Korean nationals do the written test on Fridays, so we got there by 8:00.

However, the process is not so simple. As my dependent, she falls under the SOFA agreement, and therefore cannot test on Friday. She has to come in between Monday and Thursday.

Moreover, in order to take the license test, she first has to attend an all-day Tuesday "Newcomer's Briefing." These last longer than the kids' time in day care, though, so I'd probably have to take some time off work for her to attend, and then again for her to do the license test.

That's a lot of hassle just for the privilege of driving on-post, and it's not worth it. We've only got one car anyway -- if we need to drive on post, I'll be the one to do it.
