Eclipse day
Today marked the first time since 1979 that an eclipse could be seen from the continental United States, and the first time in about 100 years that one could be seen from coast to coast.
Of course, I live in Hawaii, so I missed all of that. Very sad.
In the hope that I could catch at least a partial view as the sun was coming up, I woke up at 5:30 this morning and drove down to the beach, which is only a few minutes away. I'd hoped that I could catch a glimpse of the partial eclipse as the sun was coming up over the horizon, but things didn't work out that way.
Clouds above the Ko`olau mountain range blocked the dawn from view, so I didn't even get a chance to see the sun until about 6:30. By that point, though, the sun had risen high enough in the sky that the sun's brightness outshone any partial blockage.
My consolation is that Fort Hood lies in the April 8th, 2024 eclipse's path of totality. [Source] I wonder if I can get assigned there during that time....
Other questions: Should I gut the glasses now (at a discount) or wait until they come around again?
