Started the new job today
So, I officially started my new job as a defense contractor today. It was a strange day.
Over this past weekend, I completed all mandatory online training, but the security managers still needed time to process the security pass. Without it, I still can't access the building.
In the morning, I dropped the kids off at school and went to the Main Office. I arrived at about 8:15 (really early), so I hung out until about 9:00. The only person in the office was Boss, so we chatted a bit. HR person came in at 10:00, and we also talked for a bit.
As I left the building, I sent a text message to Team Lead Guy, asking if we were still on to meet at 1:00, and then left to meet an old CHEMBA classmate for lunch.
At 1:00, I still hasn't heard from Team Lead Guy, so I went to Worksite, but still without having heard from Team Lead Guy, I went to the Schofield Barracks Library to print out the Security pass form that I had been emailed earlier.
While at the library, Team Lead Guy called back, and I learned that he's not actually the team lead guy -- he's actually more like Team Co-worker. He gave me the phone number to the person who's ACTUALLY the team lead, so I called him.
Real Team Lead Guy was not in the office at the time, I learned from Phone Answerer, but would be back tomorrow. So my job is to call back after 8:00 tomorrow.
In the past, most of my jobs have been very clear about what I *did*. This one -- not so much. I'm trying to get on-board as soon as possible, but I'm not really clear what exactly has to be done or whom to contact. I guess I'll figure some more out tomorrow.
