Day 1 - Met the parents

The flight to Korea was good, and getting through the airport worked nicely. As soon as I got there, it was off to dinner with SY's parents. For an added bonus, SY's three brothers and sisters-in-law also came, along with three nephews and two nieces.

Things went well -- there were no "Joy Luck Club moments," like the part where the white guy ruins the mother-in-law's best dish by pouring soy sauce all over it. I used my chopsticks well, didn't hog any one dish, and didn't make any silly comments. In fact, I think the only thing I said to her parents was "다 맛있습니다." (Everything is tasty.) I brought macadamia nuts for everyone in the family, which the kids particularly liked, and bowed with SY to her parents in the traditional way (절, jeol-style, see below).

So for being wiped out from the plane trip and with my scabby knee killing me to bow like that, I think I did all right.
