Travel plans, visa irritation

I get asked a lot when SY and I will be going to China. We recently finalized our travel arrangements, so here you go:

July 29 – Honolulu to Beijing. While there for two weeks, I'll study Mandarin a bit more during the mornings and doing field trips in the afternoon. In case you're interested, the school we'll be at is Beijing Language and Culture University (北京语言大学).

August 12 – Beijing to Shanghai. After One week of getting adjusted and finding an apartment, I start my internship at the U.S. Consulate General. I’ll be working with the Foreign Commercial Service’s American Trading Center promoting U.S. exports to the provinces surrounding Shanghai. I have no idea what that really means.

November 12 - Shanghai to Tokyo. In the week before graduation on Friday the 17th, we report on our internships and have some fun.

November 18/19. I go to Honolulu to pick up our stuff and arrange for our next move. SY goes to Korea to spend two weeks, and then comes to Honolulu on December 3. Who knows where we go from there....

The bad news of the day is that while everyone else will be getting a cultural exchange visa, the Consulate won't issue the required invitation letter for me. My wife and I will have to go on a tourist visa and renew it after every 30 days. :-(
