OK, this visa thing is now beyond headache. I got a call from the travel agent the other day; he said SY needed to submit her I-94 to the Chinese consulate in order for her visa to be approved. Unfortunately, we can’t get that to them because we had to submit the original to the Customs and Immigration Service for SY’s tourist visa extension, and I didn’t make a copy.
When I called immigration to get it back, I found out the extension itself will take over 90 days to process, though the directions themselves say it should be submitted 45 days before expiration. On top of that, the official I spoke with said I shouldn’t have submitted the original (that’s not what the directions say), and that I would have to fill out a G-884. Who knows how long that’s gonna take? I thought. I had to tell the travel agent that there’s no way we’re going to get that document in time, and that deny or approve we have to get her passport back soon.
So if it’s approved, great. Why did we have to go through the trouble? If its’ denied, she’ll have to FedEx her application to Seoul, and pay another $70 to have it processed by the embassy there.
The thing that bother me is this: why does the Chinese consulate need an American immigration form to allow her to leave the United States?
