Day 2 - Bohoja

Last night I didn’t sleep too well – mostly it was about a hour at a time. Part of my job as “guardian,” called bohoja (보호자, 保護者), is to pick up the baby from the nursery whenever they call, bring him to SY to nurse, and then take him back when she’s finished. Well, at this point there’s not really that much to nurse on, so to speak, so I ended up making frequent trips.

For breakfast, I went to the Krispy Kreme near the hospital. Although I had wanted to get cigars for the guys at work, I couldn’t think of a place to get them (or even how I would find the time to get them), so I grabbed a few dozen donuts instead.

In the afternoon, we moved to the six person room, which – surprisingly – is just as good as the private room, just with curtain separations and less space between things. In the private room, there was a refrigerator, a TV, a sink, some cabinets, and a shower. In the six person room, it’s the exact same thing, though the people nearest the TV seem to be the ones controlling what’s on and I can’t get away with taking a shower there (patients only).

And my bed, which was really just a bench, was traded for this thing, which in all honesty works just as well when you’re really tired.

The price, though, is the biggest difference. The private room’s about $270 per night, while the six-person room is only about $10 to $15 a night.
