After all the madness of the previous day, I was really ready for a break.
In the morning I only had to deal with one of the marijuana guys missing, listen to the first sergeant explain why he dismissed my old acting platoon sergeant, and talk to the investigating officer for the brigade about the soldier whose father wrote to the president (remember that one?).
At 11:30, I took the cadet over to see the battalion commander, but he had cancelled the appointment without letting us know. His secretary said to come back at 1:30.
The afternoon was equally relaxing. Went over to see the battalion commander again at 1:30, but again, he wasn't there. Try again tomorrow morning at 9:00.
Then we had to put together an NCOER (non-commissioned officer evaluation report) for a guy who'd already left the unit and none of my (now) top people had anything to say about (positive or negative).
After that, an hour before the final formation, another soldier came to me and said he needed an emergency loan before Monday or else his water will get shut off. So we had take care of that as soon as possible because -- tomorrow being our picnic -- nobody was going to be in the office.
Unfortunately, that didn't work out. First sergeant said that because our unit had filed for so many of them, the battalion sergeant major requires us to go through him. And that wasn't going to happen before Monday.
I still don't know how that's going to work out.
