Major Claude M. Payne was born in 1919. During World War II, he served in the Army. Aferward he married a Japanese woman settled back in the United States, where he retired. Of course, with him being married to a war bride, they had to deal with all the related discrimination that was typical for the time.
He passed away earlier this month in Temple, Texas, at the age of 90. Yesterday I presented the flag that draped his casket to his widow.
