Oh man, I love being on the WIC program. The seven gallons of free milk, three gallons of juice, two pounds of cheese, two dozen eggs, and four boxes of cereal we got last month sure put a smile on my face.
There's only one problem: I gained about five pounds since we got on the program.
The irony is that it's not designed for me at all. It's for my toddler son and pregnant wife. Only my wife's been so sick these days that she's mostly lost her appetite, and my son not much help. He likes any kind of fruit, and he'll chow down on cereal, but even he's got limits on how much Kix he can consume.
Rather than see good food go to waste, I took it upon myself to make sure we didn't end up with any extra stock going into this month.
It wasn't easy. I'm not big on grapefruit juice, but I was the only one who could stomach it. I tried to think of ways to make it more palatable, but in the end there was only one solution.
So I threw in some Jack Daniels and made a whiskey pucker.
The grapefruit juice is now gone.
