The silver lining -- GRE

On June 24, I wrote about not getting the job as the general's aide-de-camp and an future deploment.

The upshot, though, is that by deploying I can mark off one of the requirements for participation in the Olmsted Scholars program. According to the 2012 MILPER message, you have to have been to Iraq or Afghanistan.

And since I'll be gone for a while, I thought it would be best to get everything ready for my application, including taking the GRE and the DLAB, getting the new ASU uniform, getting my DA 31 picture ready, and updating my ORB (the standardized Army "resume").

I took the GRE yesterday, and I'm happy to say I did well. Having scored a 620/770, that puts me in the top 15% of test takers [Source], and about on par with the scores of the Scholars themselves. I'm definitely happy about that, since with the baby and all it's been hard to sit down and concentrate on studying.

This week I'll see if I can fit the DLAB in; my goal is to top 130.
