Throwing off the Nielsen Ratings
Well, the folks at Nielsen Ratings selected me to take part in their TV-watching survey.
First I received a postcard in the mail forewarning me that the actual packet would arrive later. This past week I received the packet, and just filled out their survey online (you can also do it by phone or mail).
Why us? my wife asked, because neither of us can think of a worse person to survey for this. She typically watches Korean dramas online; whenever I watch TV, it's with the kids. I can't imagine there's a whole of of 35-49 year-olds who listed Legend of Korra, Spongebob Squarepants, and Johnny Bravo as their top three most-watched television shows.
Nevertheless, according to their brochure, they "used statistical sampling to make sure that everyone has an equal chance of being selected to participate in the survey. This way, the sample represents all home in the United States."
So hey, America -- sorry for messing you up, but until the History Channel starts offering more HISTORY stuff and less "Ancient Aliens: The Time Travelers" and "Swamp People: Voodoo Bayou," I'm not going to change my viewing habits.
