From July 5th to September 21st, on-post AAFES restaurants offered a 20% discount if you also used their Military Star credit card.
This receipt from Charley's shows what kinds of fantastic deals were possible.
First, consider that a regular "Steak Deluxe" combo, with upgrade to lemonade, subtotals to $10.17. If you were to buy this in Texas, where the sales tax is 8.25%, the total would be $11.01.
Next, by filling out the survey on the back, you can save $2.79 on your next purchase (free fries and soft drink). The 20% discount then cuts the bill down another $1.48.
So by eating at this on-post restaurant, one could save 45% off an off-post establishment. Needless to say, I ate at Charley's a lot during my month of temporary duty in August.
