S1 vs. HHC

The Army's pretty serious about evaluations.

AR 623-3 §1-4b(5) requires commanders at all levels to ensure that "Rating schemes show the rated Soldier's name, indicate the effective date for each designated rating official, and are published within the unit and made accessible, either manually or electronically, to each rated Soldier and each and member of the rating chain."

For line companies, this is fairly straightforward -- the command team makes the list and distributes it. Yet for headquarters companies, it's a lot trickier. While I can do the rating scheme for the non-commissioned officers easily enough through input from the sections, I don't do the officers. That's the S1's job.

So here's the process:
  1. Receive the rating scheme for the officers from the S1.
  2. Draw up the rating scheme for all the sergeants. First Sergeant and Commander sign it.
  3. Turn the list back in to the S1 for the battalion command team's signatures.
  4. Once signed, get it back from the S1 and distribute to all rated soldiers.
Because of the turnover and the constant updates regarding people's DEROS (Date[s] Eligible to Return from Overseas), this has to happen every month.
