Operational Contract Support, Day 4

Today we started class with a group presentation of yesterday's Performance Work Statements. After that, we learned about Independent Government Cost Estimates, which is the government's method of determining what a fair profit would be for a potential contract awardee.

We also divided up into pairs and worked on a practical exercise about IGCEs -- given a set amount of data, we have to develop one for ourselves. This was the highlight of my day.

My partner and I not only finished first, but we were one of only three (out of twelve) groups to get the correct answer. I credit my partner, who pointed out that depreciation is not a billable line item expense. If it were just me I would have gotten it wrong. In other news, I was looking on www.usajobs.gov at "Contractor Specialist" jobs, which is the civilian federal employee equivalent of what the OCS course if about. On it, I found the above notice. The responsibilities are hilarious. (Clicking on the image will expand it).

"Not well defined or well precedented"? From what I can tell, this job is to clean up other people's contracting messes. Not the kind of work that immediately appeals to me.
