Vietnam vet recognition ceremony
These days, the Army deploys *units*, not individuals, as it did in the Vietnam War (and still does in Korea).
Back then, draftees returned home individually when their time was done, and most didn't receive their awards in a public ceremony.
My unit, the 196th Infantry Brigade, has changed a lot over the decades, but maintains ties to some of the old guys through the VFW here in Hawaii. Today, we held a ceremony for a few where we presented them with their Republic of Vietnam Service Medals, Purple Hearts, etc.
One of them wore a hat that said "Never Forget". I told him that the Army never forgets -- it just mixes up its priorities.
I think today it got them right.
