"The Simpsons" is now a dream life

I remember when The Simpsons premiered back in the late 1980s. Back then, Bart was a disrespectful punk, Homer was a pathetic loser, and the show as a whole was decried as a bad influence. Today, they represent the unattainable -- a household sustained by a single wage earner.

This is a good quote:
“That a show which was originally about a dysfunctional mess of a family barely clinging to middle class life in the aftermath of the Reagan administration has now become aspirational is frankly the most on the nose manifestations [sic] of capitalist American decline I can think of.” [Source: The Life in The Simpsons Is No Longer Attainable]
