I saw a half-pound wagyu steak at the grocery store for ~$8 and thought I'd try it out. 30 minute rest to raise it to room temp. I seasoned with salt & pepper, medium heat, cast iron pan, seared 3 minutes on each side (though for the thickness that proved too much) and let it rest 5 minutes afterward.
It was good, but it was kind of like cooking a steak in a stick of butter. Not sure if it was me or the cut or if that's just how it is, but at least I can say I've tried wagyu, and it didn't break the budget.
Plus, I ended up with 2 ounces of leftover tallow with which to season the cast iron in the future.
