Arguing with memes: Survivorship bias

This is survivorship bias -- a perception influenced by what survives as evidence. In a sense, this happens in newspapers, too. We only see the news that's "fit to print" -- the things that are newsworthy. But we don't see the 10,000 other things are aren't newsworthy.
