We pulled the kids out of school early to catch our train to Berlin for the Thanksgiving weekend. We went to Frankfurt via the S-train first, then caught the ICE to Berlin.
On the ICE, I learned a valuable lesson about how German trains work. I had bought tickets for the train *without* a seat assignment. However, that doesn't mean you can sit just anywhere -- you have to check to see if the seat is reserved.
It was through error, correction, and polite education that we learned this, but -- thankfully -- we were able to find two pairs of seats that hadn't been assigned.
