Armenia trip -- Day 1a, Republic Square

I left for Armenia on Tuesday evening, and arrived in Yerevan early Wednesday morning, after a 4.5 hour flight. I got a ride to the hotel in the downtown area, and promptly fell asleep.

I had to change rooms in the afternoon, but the new room wasn't ready, so I walked around Republic Square. The buildings date back to the Soviet era, and the stones have a rose-colored hue to them. For this reason, Yerevan is referred to as "The Pink City."
The northwest and southwest corners. Looking east from the west side of Republic Square. The National History Museum.
