Macedonia trip, Day 5 (e)

Between the Hagia Sophia and the coastline is (or was) the palace of Galerius. It's amazing that such a structure is right in the middle of a major metropolitan area, but then again -- it's been this way for 1600 years. It's the metropolitan area that's new.
From there, we went to see the Aegean Sea ...
... and walked over to the White Tower.
Thessaloniki is a major logistical center, and Greece is a significant player in the shipbuilding industry. As a former transportation officer, I'm always fascinated by the sight of cranes and ships.
By that time, we were getting hungry, so naturally we stopped for gyros.

("Hellas" being the Greek word for Greece.)
