News on C. Jenkins

Hey, you remember the guy who deserted his post in Korea and fled to North Korea? Yeah, the one who ended up marrying one of the abducted Japanese nationals? He's been in Japan for a while now with his wife; she was repatriated somewhat recently to kind of sooth NK-Japanese relations.

Well, he got sentenced. Link After spending 40 years in NK, he'll spend 30 days in jail, a demotion, and a punitive discharge. All things considered, that's pretty light.

I'm happy it worked out this way. I can't say I'm an admirer; living in NK is not my kind of fun, nor is the idea of deserting, but he must have had an interesting life. If he writes a book about his experiences, I'll buy it in a hearbeat.
