Grandpop, Day 11 - Departure Eve

Today was a busy day -- in the morning our Kindergarten classes had their end-of-the-year play, which was one big ball of stress for the Korean staff, and an exercise in crowd management for the foreign teachers. The afternoon, though, was for the most part uneventful.

After work, I stopped at home to pick up my grandfather's luggage and headed up to Yongsan. The hospital staff will be releasing him tomorrow, and from there he'll go straight to the airport. Bobby, his wife Hannah, and SY came also. We played a round of Uno, and then we had to split.

It's been a heckova week and a half, and to tell the truth, I'm sad to see my grandpop leave. We spent a lot of time talking about stuff, and I doubt I'll have a chance to it again. As stressful as it was, I wish it would have lasted longer.

One of the thing we talked about was how my grandmother died last August. They spent the day in the casinos in Atlantic City, and after they got back home they decided to go to my father's house for dinner. On the way back from his house my grandmom told my grandfather in the car, "You know, I really had a great time today."

Later that night, she had a pain near her temple; my grandfather took her to the hospital, where she passed away later that night. It had been a really great day.

My grandfather shared about his life with her at the funeral. He said, "Eleanor and I were married for 58 years. In that time, I must have said, 'I love you,' about a thousand times. It wasn't enough. It should have been 100,000 times. If you're married, and you love your wife, or husband, you gotta tell them. Life's too short...."

Well, I told him when he left, and I'll write it here because I know he's going to read it also.

I love my grandfather.
