Toilet's over there

In the U.S., if you were to ask someone, "'Where's the toilet?" they might with answer something like, "It's in the restroom." We don't like to talk about "toilets" necessarily because it's a little to ... "direct" for most people. We use the euphemism "restroom," though everyone knows darn well no one ever really rests in there.

In Korea and Japan there's a similar thing. The word "화장실" (化粧室) bears a close resemblence to "화장품" (化粧品), the word for "cosmetics." In Japan you ask for the sink, or 手洗-i (sorry, I can't do hiragana with this PC 방 computer).

Given that, it's strange to see signs like this:

While Koreans and Japanese use their respective euphemisms, they don't use the English one. Interesting.
