The spring semester just ended, and this week the whole campus is just about completely empty. That, however, won’t stop the CHEMBA pain train from coming next week. On Monday, we have a presentation to give and a final to take in Chinese Finance. On Tuesday we have our Negotiations final to turn in (it was take-home) and our final presentation to give in Chinese Law.
And then there’s the issue of the one elective class I have to take for my degree. The Summer session starts next week, too, and as you’ve read before, I’ve been waiting for Diplomatic Security to finish with my security clearance to start my internship. However, as of this moment, they’re still waiting for some field reports, and there’s no indication it will be done anytime soon.
Rather than risk not finishing my degree with the rest of my classmates, I’ve decided to take a summer class, International Financial Management. It meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 9:30, and lasts until June 30. In the meantime, I’ll continue waiting for DS to finish the clearance, and when it does go through I’ll just work for the Passport Office as a non-credit deal.
I think this works well for everyone. I get the security clearance and experience I both want and need to strengthen any future Foreign Service bids, I don’t have to worry about the 150 hours required for UH credit, UH doesn’t have to worry about internship reports, and the Passport Office gets a peon they can order around for a couple of weeks.
The only problem is that it’s just another stressor that I don’t really need right now.
