Day 5 - Fireguard

I had fireguard last night. It works like this: in the bay, two people at a time stand at a desk at the front of the room and made sure no one disappears during the night. There’s also a list of things each shift has to do.

Well, when we got up and found out that not every shift had done their job, I blew up and started yelling at everyone to get and clean. One of the things I’d really been worried about when I came to basic training was that I was going to get in trouble for other people’s mistakes, and I didn’t want to deal with that. Just the same, I shouldn’t have exploded like I did. Oh well…

Had PT (physical training) in the field near the barracks and did “30/60s,” where you sprint for 30 seconds and walk for 60 seconds.

After that we had our first combatives class, and in the afternoon we got issued our gas masks. During combatives class, there was a computer problem where the mouse wouldn’t work, and I got to help one of the drill sergeants using keyboard shortcuts.

Of course, that didn’t help me later on in the day when I was standing in line for dinner. I was supposed to stay looking straight ahead of me, but I looked around. For that, I got sent to the back of the line. *sigh*
