Productive day; still more to do

I don't know why, but today we had a day off. It was a good opportunity to get lots of stuff done, so
  1. I signed up our son at Child & Youth Services (CYS). He did his health screening earlier in the week, and now with this appointment, he's all set for either weekend babysitting or day care.

  2. I submitted the last of my TDY paperwork. I had gotten an accounting of the money I'd received so far, and found problems with the reimbursements for both in & around mileage reimbursement and temporary lodging. So I stopped by the finance office and fixed that.

  3. SY and I visited the work center to see if they do job placement, but they don't; they focus more on job search skills. Oh well.

  4. We visited the local office of Tarleton University (soon to be Texas A&M). Since learning about the new Career Advancement Account program ($6000 available for a spouse's educational advancement toward a "mobile" career), SY has been really interested in getting either a teaching certificate or a master's degree in education. As a servicemember's spouse, she qualifies for in-state tuition, so it looks we can get that for her with minimal out-of-pocket expense. Nice.

  5. We also visited the Exceptional Family Member Program office. SY qualifies for a certain number of free babysitting hours per month ("respite care"), so we wanted to learn more.

  6. Lastly, we met with our real estate agent to go over the house inspection we had done on Thursday. Basically, there are some issues with the plumbing, electric, and ventilation systems that we want the seller to take care of. Nothing too major, but it would be nice not to have to worry about significant maintenance issues for at least a year.
Later this weekend I hope to get started on the 14 things necessary to fully process the mortgage.
