Last week Friday I got a call from the executive officer (XO) that we would be getting an ROTC cadet for a three week "internship," and that she'd be arriving on Sunday.
That was also the day I found out I'd be her sponsor. "Oh. OK," was about the extent of my response.
So it's been a busy week. In addition to my normal duties as platoon leader, I've had to shuttle the cadet around to her various appointments, briefs, meetings, and luncheons. (Oh and I've been designated the 'Energy Conservation Officer" of the company, whatever that means.)
It's not been all that bad -- I got a chance to meet with the post commanding general (I've even got his business card!) and the brigage commander. But I'm glad this week was only four days long.
Next week, I'll be in a classroom learning about how to be an operations officer (S-3).
