Using up our WIC fruits and vegetables allowance is never a problem -- we eat far more in a month than the $16 covers. The hard part, though, is fully utilizing the benefits. It sounds silly, but for me, it's fun kind of a challenge.
This past month I was stuck with 18 cents.
I've discovered that the trick is to buy bananas. They vary in size somewhat and at 44 cents a pound are the cheapest fruit. It took a little effort, but I was able to find a banana that weighed exactly 0.41 pounds.
It's a satisfying thing to see all zeros at the end of the month. Obsessing about using up every cent is admittedly ridiculous, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.
