The headline reads, "Of 1.2 million fully vaccinated people in Washington state, 100 have gotten COVID19."
There's a perspective that says, "See, it's not 100% effective!" And that's true.
But that fails to appreciate that the COVID19 vaccine is not like the polio vaccine. It hasn't been around long enough to benefit from years of improvement. Rather, it's a stopgap measure designed to limit the spread of the virus, to the point that herd immunity can take over.
A lot of people have a hard time understanding this. They think the vaccine is a license to go back to doing whatever they want.
Others will read this news and say, "if it's not 100%, why bother?" That's a shame, too, because that response won't help the rest of society either.
Even though the vaccine has limitations and states are repealing mask mandates (Texas, looking at you), don't stop now.
We've figured out what works; now the trick is to stay on course.
