Berlin Holocaust Memorial

The steles of Berlin's Holocaust Memorial begin, imperceptably, at the sidewalk. They are even with the pavement, and people pass over them without even changing stride. The steles then start to rise in height. They can no longer be ignored, but you can look past them of you want.

Going farther, though, they become so tall that they become the dominant feature. The visitor is swallowed -- dwarfed by their size -- and one could easily lose their way.
To me the message is clear: no one could claim they didn't know. But I can see how many could easily lose their way.
