Our return trip was pretty straightforward. We checked out of the hotel and drove back from Thessalonikki up to Skopje.

Greece is part of the European Union and the Schengen Area; North Macedonia is not. As a result, they we had to go through the border control. From there, though, the highway north is fantastic.

Not only is the traffic extremely light (and the tolls cheap), but the views are beautiful.

Reflecting on our visit to Macedonia (both North and Greek), I had a really good time. The former is a Slavic culture with a language that's very similar to Serbian and Bulgarian (this sign about "The most delicious crispy fries" works in both). Greek is a language isolate with a culture and history that's distinct and they're very protective of. Yet they share many similar foods and an approach to life that makes them both very nice places to spend a vacation.
