Armenian is difficult

Armenian is a hard language to learn. Although it is an Indo-European language, it is *very* different from English. While English and other western European languages have many words in common with Greek and Latin, Armenian has none of those, having developed in parallel to them. It has just about as much in common with English as Hindi. The word for "men," for example, has no business being this long.

And while even eastern European languages have Cyrillic in common, Armenian has its own writing system that is completely unique. Even transliterated words are hard to distinguish, because you don't really know what language it's borrowing words from.

Other languages are hard for those reasons, too, but two other factors make things even more difficult: 1.) there are relatively few materials for learning it (Duolingo has High Valyrian, but not Armenian?), and 2.) so many people are familiar with English, or even Russian, that you have very little incentive to work hard at it. Even for me, it's easier to read the Russian than the Armenian.
